The event will commence at 5.30pm with an introduction from Professor Chris Butler, Professorial Fellow in Primary Healthcare at Trinity.
We will then be busy listening to:
Professor Tomáš Hanke, Professor of Vaccine Immunology at the Jenner Institute, Oxford and a Distinguished Professor at the Joint Research Center for Human Retrovirus Infection, Kumamoto University, will tell us about the hard work a vaccine development involves
Alex de Jonquieres, (PPE, 2000) Director of Health Systems & Immunisation Strengthening at Gavi, the vaccine Alliance, who will talk to us about Gavi in general, and their work to help ensure that COVID vaccines are made available to the world's 92 poorest countries
Dr Simon Hunt, (Biochemistry ,1963) Emeritus University Lecturer in Immunology. Dr Hunt spent his entire academic career at the Dunn School of Pathology at Oxford, will talk bout the history of the 1918-19 influenza pandemic and how it resolved and also about the significance of the anti-SARS-CoV2 antibody reactivity that's being found in some historical blood samples pre-COVID19
Professor S.S. Vasan, (DPhil, 1998 Rhodes Scholar) Honorary Professor- University of York and CSIRO lead for COVID-19 preclinical response. First to show ferrets are susceptible and used this model to evaluate Oxford’s vaccine, including intranasal route. Recently showed vaccines still effective against the new G strain of the virus.
