Medical Society Dinner

Saturday 14 March 2026

The evening will begin with a reception from 6:30 pm, followed by a three course, black tie dinner with coffee and port in the Hall.

The after dinner speaker will be Professor Malcolm Finlay (1995) 'Life on Parole from the Academic Prison: notes from a repeat NHS offender'

Consultant cardiologist and entrepreneur Malcolm Finlay reflects on life ‘on parole’ from the NHS and academia. Expect honest stories, practical rules and a few contraband ideas about building useful medicine — from mapping irregular heart beats to working out what that Apple watch alert really means — without losing your curiosity, your integrity, or your (mildly inappropriate) sense of humour.

You are more than welcome to bring up to two guests - please simply indicate how many you would like to bring and their names.

Places at dinner cost £58 per person.

A limited number of rooms will be available overnight at a cost of £56 per person, including breakfast.

If you would like to attend the dinner please use the form below to book your place(s).

If you are currently studying medicine, then the cost is £30 for you and £58 per guest - please contact sarah.jenkinson@trinity.ox.ac.uk or return your paper reply slip (current Trinity students) to the Alumni & Development Office.

Are you able to make an additional donation?

Trinity admits up to six pre-clinical students each year and until quite recently, many chose to go elsewhere for the second (clinical) part of their course. In response, we have invested in our provision for clinical students, including the appointment of a member of academic staff dedicated to supporting this group. Now, almost all clinical students prefer to stay at Trinity and we are keen to encourage this trend.

The Oxford medical degree is taught over six-years. Student loans help to cover the costs of the first four; after this, medics can apply for NHS bursaries. However, even when awarded at the maximum level these bursaries are significantly less than the loans. Many students are forced to look for a separate income stream to make up the difference. The gap in funding for medics is something that Trinity feels strongly should be addressed.

All medical students face a shortfall in funding in their final year and for many, the college is their only source of additional support. If you were able to make a donation of any amount to help Trinity’s medical finalists as they face this funding shortfall, they and the college would be very grateful indeed.
